It might feel as if Mario Kart Tour was only just released, but the game is already halfway through its eighth tour. That goes to show two things. One, time flies when you’re having fun, and two, Nintendo is taking the first-ever mobile version of its iconic racing franchise very seriously.
As always, there are still some gamers who feel as if everything Tour has given them so far is not enough. Personally, we think the New Year Tour has quieted even those critics. Not only were new characters, karts, and gliders added to the game last week, but Nintendo has also increased the odds of players landing previous characters added to the game over the course of the past seven tours.
As for what’s new in week two of this tour, as usual, it’s not a lot. Players will have to wait for the start of the next tour for wholesale changes and new additions, which will launch in the early hours of January 15, 2020. There are some changes for week two, of course, most notably the start of a new ranked cup.
The Diddy Kong Cup has received the ranked treatment for the next seven days. The cup features Tokyo Blur 2R, GCN Dino Dino Jungle R, and DS Waluigi Pinball. For players still trying to complete the Three Thwomp Challenge, this is pretty handy. Not only can you improve your rank by racing around the streets of Tokyo, but that’s also one of the tracks you’ll find Thwomps this week.
Players have until 9:59 pm PT on January 14, 2020, to work on their ranks. Tour will then tick over into its next tour and a new ranked cup will be revealed. As for what else is up for grabs for the next week, be sure to land Gold Koopa Troopa, Red Yoshi, and their accompanying karts and gliders while the getting’s good.
