Nintendo changed its approach to consoles in a major way when it released the Wii back in 2006. Its aim was to create a console different from its competition that allowed players of all levels and experiences to play together. Whether it be a hardcore gamer who plays every day or that gamer’s aunt who has just popped round for Christmas Day.

Nintendo did this via games such as Wii Sports and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. Easy to explain games that almost anyone can play. Mario & Sonic’s joint venture caught on more than Nintendo would have expected and has even spawned sequels. First, the iconic pair’s crack at winter sports, and today their return to the summer games in preparation for next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics was released today (November 5, 2019) on Nintendo Switch. Early reviews of the game have been mixed, but chances are if players enjoyed the previous two games, they’ll like this one too. It is an up to date version of the original just with more events. Plus, a cool feature that allows players to use retro, 2D versions of characters from both franchises has been introduced to the game.

If that is indeed enough to convince you into giving Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics a try, we would suggest you act fast. The discount probably isn’t a mistake, but we also can’t imagine it being something that sticks around for long. Perhaps a day one discount that will be gone by midnight. Mario titles on Nintendo are rarely discounted, so this could be the only time the brand new game is ever this cheap.
