It’s been confirmed that King T’Challa in this August’s Marvel’s Avengers Black Panther War for Wakanda DLC will be played by none other than Christopher Judge, who voiced Kratos in 2018’s God of War.

The game’s official Twitter account tweeted out the news which was also broken by Entertainment Weekly. Judge told EW he actually originally turned down the role following the tragic death of MCU actor Chadwick Boseman last year. “There’s many Black Panthers, but I really didn’t believe that anyone should ever do T’Challa again. The actual talks proceeded and, basically, I wound up doing it because my mother and my children said if I didn’t do it, they would disown me.”

As well as Judge, Square Enix also announced that Evan Narcisse has been brought on as the DLC’s Narrative Consultant. Narcisse not only worked on last year’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales game, but also wrote the 2018 comic series Rise of the Black Panther for Marvel. Judge, Narcisse and the DLC’s narrative lead Hannah MacLeod will take part in a fan Q&A livestream, set to take place at 6:30pm UK time on Crystal Dynamics’ Twitch channel.

The DLC was formally revealed back in March, and will add a new single-player story that sees the Avengers head into the new Wakandan Jungle biome to face new threats. There, they’ll team up with the Black Panther himself and try and keep the villainous Klaw from getting his hands on the precious metal Vibranium.

Meanwhile the Marvel’s Avengers Black Panther: War for Wakanda DLC is currently scheduled to launch for the game this August on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
