The runtime of Marvel’s Avengers has been revealed and it will offer a long experience for those who seek to complete all of the side content, with the game clocking in at around thirty hours for those who explore everything it has to offer.

Marvel’s Avengers is an upcoming action-adventure that is set in a world in which the Avengers are forced to disband after they are unable to prevent an event known as A-Day, which resulted in the destruction of most of San Francisco and the death of Captain America. The story follows Kamala Khan, who takes on the mantle of Ms. Marvel and attempts to reform the Avengers.

Marvel’s Avengers isn’t due to be released until next summer, but fans have already been asking the developers questions about the length of the game. Crystal Dynamics Senior Brand Director Rich Briggs was asked by Comic Book about how long it will take to complete Marvel’s Avengers and he compared its runtime to that of the recent Tomb Raider games.

“I think it’ll depend on exactly how deep you want to go into it,” Briggs said. “So if you think about previous Crystal games, you know that if you want to be playing your way through the core story, it’s going to be in that area, 10 to 12 hours.”

Briggs then explained that the length of the game would be increased by finishing the side activities. “But if you want to see everything there is, and do all the side missions and everything else, you’re generally looking at 30 plus hours in the Tomb Raider games,” Briggs said. “So we’re not putting exact numbers on it just yet, but you can expect something comparable to what we’ve done in the past with that regard. And then, of course, you have the extended narrative and the extended game plan, more heroes post-launch.”

The ten to twelve hours to finish the main campaign might not sound like a lot, but most games generally expect the player to experience some of the side activities, rather than just running towards the end boss. It’s possible to finish games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in under thirty minutes, but players will be missing out on most of the content if they blitz through the story in as little time as possible.

Marvel’s Avengers is due to be released for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One on May 15, 2020.
