Yet another game has been hit in the early 2020 game delay wave. The Sony published Iron Man VR will now be coming out on May 15, 2020. Originally scheduled for the end of February, developer Camouflaj took to Twitter to confirm the news and stated that the title wasn’t currently meeting its own expectations. This delay should give the team enough time to polish up the Tony Stark simulator.

Regardless of whether or not Iron Man VR did need extra time, this delay is probably for the best. March 2020 became an absolute minefield of hot releases. Before this week’s delay of Final Fantasy VII Remake, March housed 14 major games coming out days apart from one another. Iron Man VR would have technically been a February release, but that wouldn’t have helped things much.

Will Iron Man VR be enough to break the stigma surrounding VR games? That is a tough one to say. Previews have been cautiously optimistic about how this plays, but it’s hard to deny that this kind of feels like a tech demo. It looks dramatically better than the free crap Sony put out for Spider-Man: Homecoming a few years back, but still pretty limited in scope.

This delay will see the title release after Half-Life: Alyx, a shooter that many believe could be VR’s killer app. Valve is banking a lot on having Half-Life change the perception around VR tech, so putting Iron Man VR out after that tentpole game might actually shift some extra copies. Iron Man does require a PlayStation VR headset, though, so I could be a bit off the mark there.

With new consoles on the horizon and VR seemingly going by the wayside, this might be Sony’s last real chance to make its PSVR headset take off. There’s no word if the PS5 will even support the headset despite the console seemingly having backward compatibility support. If Sony really does dump this tech for next-generation, then games like Iron Man VR will become curios.

At any rate, if you were looking forward to jumping into the Iron Man suit, you’ll need to wait a bit longer.
