Marvel’s Midnight Suns boss guide – How to beat Fallen Venom

Similar to other major foes, the Fallen Venom boss in Marvel’s Midnight Suns does show up several times throughout the course of the campaign. His first appearance is during the Sanctum Symbiotum mission early in the game. In some story missions, you need to deplete his HP bar a couple of times just to finish the encounter. However, if he appears as reinforcements in general/side missions, then you only need to KO him once. Here are the abilities you need to watch out for:

  • Join Us – Melee attacks made against him have a 50% chance to proc Symbiote Skin. If active, the next melee attack will Bind the next melee attacker.
  • Symbiote Binding – Prevents a character from acting. The binding can be removed if it takes a single point of damage (includes AoE and knockbacks).
  • Spiked Explosion – Runs to an area near a friendly unit and deals AoE damage on the next turn.

Since Fallen Venom is the first proper boss you’ll face in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, he won’t pose much of a threat. The idea here is to simply build up your Heroism until you have a hard-hitting ability (i.e., Hero Combo Cards, Patience, Axe of Angurruumus, and the like), or ranged spells.

If you don’t proc Join Us via melee attacks, and if you can deplete his health bar in as few moves as possible, then you won’t have a lot to worry about. But, if he does manage to bind one of your teammates, then make sure you’ve got an AoE, Knockback, or weaker attack ready to destroy it. Since the binding counts as an enemy unit, it will also proc Quick/Marked.

Much later, you’ll finally cleanse Venom (so to speak) in “The Bell Tolls” mission. The goal here is to KO your foe and use the Repair Church Bell card to completely incapacitate him. Unfortunately, since that card requires 10 Heroism, you’ll need to build up a ton, reduce its cost, or wait for a few turns until the cost is low enough. You may also ring the smaller church bells via a card dropped by a soldier. This will apply Weak and Vulnerable to help you with the encounter.
