Excitement for a new Blade movie has been pretty high since the project was first announced back in July of 2019.
The daywalking vampire hunter is a Marvel fan favourite, and many still have fond memories of the Wesley Snipes-led series in the late 90s -early 00s.
With Mahershala Ali taking up the title role, the reboot has already made a great start when it comes to casting. Here’s everything we know about the movie so far.
Marvel Studios’ Blade – release date and shooting news
An official announcement at San Diego Comic Con declared that Blade releases in theatres on November 2, 2023. Shooting is set to commence in October of this year.
During the same presentation, Marvel also confirmed that the film would be part of Phase 5 of the MCU. That kicks off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in February 2023 and ends with Thunderbolts in July of 2024.
Together with Phase 4 and Phase 5, Blade will be a part of what Marvel’s dubbed The Multiverse Saga. This will end with two new Avengers films in 2025. It’s not yet clear if Blade himself will be a part of the new Avengers team.
Marvel Studio’s Blade – cast & plot news and more
It was announced back in July of 2019 that Mahershala Ali will play the title role of Blade. He took the role following his stint as villain Cottonmouth in the Netflix Luke Cage live action series.
Marvel hasn’t given too much away about the plot of Blade at the time of writing. However, the movie should include Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman as the Black Knight.
This was seemingly confirmed (spoilers) after Ali made an uncredited cameo as the voice of Blade in a post credit scene in 2021’s Eternals movie. The scene showed Whitman discovering the Ebony Blade, the Black Knight’s signature weapon.
