First up at The Game Awards 2019 was an announcement for the next DLC pack for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Focused on the X-Men, this new pack will be titled “Rise of Phoenix” and bring Cable, Gambit, Iceman, and Phoenix into the fray. The pack will be releasing on December 23, 2019, on the eShop. Anyone that has purchased the season pass will receive the DLC for free when it releases.

From the trailer, we can gather that new gauntlet missions will be coming to the game along with a mode called “Danger Room.” From the title alone, Danger Room sounds like a survival type mode that will pit players against hordes of enemies. It’s likely taking its name from the X-Men comics.

Along with that, it seems as if the level cap for characters has been increased again. Some of the missions had a rating for 180, which leads us to believe the new cap is around 200. This follows along from the last DLC, which saw a 50 level up to 150 over the base game’s 100.

As for the character selection, it makes sense that Phoenix would be among the additions. She’s one of the most famous X-Men after Wolverine, Storm, and Cyclops. Considering they are already in Ultimate Alliance 3, it only stood to reason she would be next.

Cable’s inclusion is likely because he was featured in Deadpool 2 last year. Most people like him but weren’t intimately familiar with him until Ryan Reynolds started ripping him apart. If he can give us a line of, “I’M NOT A FUCKING RACIST,” I’ll die happy.

Despite releasing this year, many people have overlooked Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. It may not be an all-time classic, but it was a very engaging old-school brawler that added just enough RPG elements to differentiate itself from its predecessors. Local multiplayer wasn’t exactly smooth, but it was easy to get sucked into taking down the various villains of the Marvel universe with your friends.

The previous DLC pack was a little underwhelming, but the characters were heavily requested fan favorites. Getting to partner The Punisher with Deadpool is something that can’t be done anywhere else, so Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 gets a pass just for that.
