A couple of weeks back we reported that Capcom were rumoured to be working on the third title in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Today we can reveal that that rumor was indeed the real deal, as a few details on the aptly titled Marvel vs. Capcom 3 have emerged from Capcom’s annual press event, Captivate, down in Hawaii.
Information is currently scarce but the following details have hit the net:
The game will be full disc-based release available for both Xbox 360 & PS3. There are currently no plans to release on any other systems.
Gameplay- wise we can expect the classic 2D beat-em-up style, but not in the traditional sense - It will be a cross between Street Fighter IV and the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
The visuals are said to be “seriously upgraded” 720p HD graphics.
Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto and Storm are the only confirmed characters, but the development team have said they will be “blowing fans out of the water” with the sheer number of characters included in the game. This may indicate that the game will feature the classic Capcom character unlock system.
There will be a playable build on the floor at this years E3 convention in June.
The rumored release date is late 2010 or early 2011.
While these are all unconfirmed details, we can expect an official announcement - including the first screenshots, trailers, and more - to be released within the week, once the embargo has been lifted.
These few details have got me totally hyped for the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - I’m extremely interested in seeing how the visuals will look. Surely, I’m not alone in thinking that the Marvel characters rendered in a Street Fighter IV styling will look mind-blowingly awesome. So long as the development team can deliver a well-balanced, yet sizable roster we could have another modern classic on our hands. Now, who said the beat ’em up was dead?
