Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite will release in late 2017, Capcom has announced. Talk of the game being a PlayStation exclusive appears to have been false, however, with Capcom noting a simultaneous launch on PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
“For the last two decades, Marvel vs. Capcom has been one of the most celebrated franchises among fans,” said Mike Jones, Executive Producer, Marvel Entertainment. “To deliver on that legacy, we’ve worked closely with Capcom to create a game that honors the heritage of the series and combines Marvel’s unique brand of storytelling with Capcom’s world-class gameplay. We’re raising the bar with Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and are excited for players to get their hands on it next year.”
In addition to single player Arcade, Training, and Mission modes, Capcom is promising a “visually stunning and immersive” cinematic Story Mode that claims to put players “at the center of both universes as they battle for survival against a sinister new threat”.
Announced characters include Captain Marvel and Iron Man from the Marvel side, and Ryu and Mega Man X from Capcom. Look out for a steady trickle of character announcements over the coming year.
Furthermore, Capcom has released Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on PS4, including all previous DLC and featuring “an improved 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second”. Xbox One and PC versions will follow in March. The re-release is priced £19.99.
