Via Gametrailers, Bioware has released new footage of the anticipated vehicle missions for Mass Effect 2. Scheduled tentatively for late March, the trailer shows the Hammerhead hovercraft in action. Now gamers will be able to strafe their enemies rather than constantly circling them. The combat also appears to be much more fluid than when gamers were forced to use the Mako, a heavily-armored, but awkward, moon buggy. Reportedly, there will be five new missions involving the Hammerhead.

I was never too crazy about the vehicle missions in the original Mass Effect, but you can’t complain about free DLC.

In addition, Bioware today announced more free DLC in the form of a new heavy weapon, the “Arc Projector:”

More specifically, the weapon allows players to hit unseen enemies via a “chain-lightning” effect. The Arc Projector is available for download today via the Cereberus Network. Bioware’s support of Mass Effect 2 is already a marked improvement over the content for the original game. Keep it coming, Bioware!

The Arc Projector ionizes targets with a non-visible laser to ready them for a high-voltage electrical attack. As the lightning-like bolt hits its first target, a sophisticated auto-targeting system paints succeeding targets with the ionization laser, allowing the electricity to take the path of least resistance and arc between them. An entire enemy strike team can be shocked to death with a few pulls of the trigger. Careful aiming will also allow the user to arc shots to nearby explosives as well.
