The critically acclaimed Mass Effect series is already known for being a well-developed, intriguing franchise. Many fans are left wondering what they could possible add to Mass Effect 2, the supposedly final iteration in the franchise, to top what it has delivered so far. Thanks to a new BioWare job listing, we have an answer for one of the new additions: multiplayer.
BioWare’s Montreal Studio has an opening for a Multiplayer Programmer, listed under the Mass Effect franchise.
It looks like BioWare is testing the waters to see if they can integrate an enjoyable multiplayer experience here - as an admitted Mass Effect fanatic (shut up, the comics are pretty good!) I’m stoked for the idea. Granted, I’m not quite sure how it would work. Seeing Mass Effect 2’s shooting mechanic in a multiplayer environment would take some getting used to - and imagine how frustrating it would be to get pulled and thrown by psy-opponents over and over again!
We are working on Mass Effect, one of the industry’s most acclaimed and beloved franchises… Multiplayer programmers ensure the game engine and game systems work reliably and efficiently in a multiplayer environment. They… take existing single-player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe.
They may be trying to open up Mass Effect to the masses, and not just the RPG fanbase - then again, maybe a movie based on the series could do just that.
What do you think about the idea of Mass Effect multiplayer? Are you excited?
