Mortal Kombat 11 game director Ed Boon is known for his active Twitter presence, which often sees fans reading a bit too much into his tweets thinking that they’re teases for upcoming DLC characters. However, the most recent Boon tweet to get attention online has nothing to do with a faux character tease, but rather a short interaction that he had with the McDonald’s Twitter account.

On January 2, Mortal Kombat 11 game director Ed Boon shared an image of a restaurant called Beijing Chinese Food Rest & Cafe. The restaurant appears to be using the iconic Mortal Kombat logo as its own, which prompted to Boon to joke about NetherRealm getting into the restaurant business. “Watch out McDonald’s. We’re koming after you…..”

That may have been the end of it, but then McDonald’s responded to Boon’s “threat” a day later on January 3. McDonald’s responded with, “Savagery is no match for skill!” - A famous quote from popular Mortal Kombat character Sub-Zero. It also implies that Boon may be “savage” but he lacks the skill necessary to actually challenge McDonald’s in the restaurant business.

As expected, this short Twitter exchange between MK11 director Ed Boon and the McDonald’s Twitter account has led to a number of joke comments about Ronald McDonald being a future DLC character. While not literally impossible, the chances of that happening are slim to none, though it would be amusing to see a “wholesome” character like Ronald McDonald unleash Fatalities and Fatal Blows on various members of the Mortal Kombat 11 roster.

While fans shouldn’t expect Ronald McDonald to ever come to Mortal Kombat 11, there is still a clown that will be making his way to the game sooner rather than later. In fact, the MK11 Joker DLC will be coming to the popular fighting game on January 28, giving the infamous DC Comics villain the chance to square off against Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and the rest of the roster.

Joker is one of the last characters coming to Mortal Kombat 11 as part of the first Kombat Pack. The final one will be fellow comic book character Spawn, who will be added to the game in March. NetherRealm is expected to add even more DLC characters beyond that, though, possibly in a Kombat Pack 2, so MK11 fans should have plenty of content to look forward to throughout 2020.

Mortal Kombat 11 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
