Popular gaming podcasting and streaming group, Mega64, has been banned from Twitch after the group’s annual ChristmasCast stream went “too far.” Fans have called for the Mega64 account to be reinstated and have criticized Twitch for its inconsistent ban system.

Every year, the Mega64 team hosts a Christmas stream which typically features some sort of eating challenge. The eating challenges, which see the group eating large quantities of normal foods and smaller quantities of gross substances such as year-old milk, often end up with someone vomiting. This is what happened in the Christmas 2019 stream and the vomiting is likely why the group has been banned from Twitch. The Twitch terms of service have a rule about not inflicting harm on oneself and the site likely felt that the eating challenges feel afoul of that.

The Mega64 team seems to be taking the Twitch ban in its stride. On Twitter, the official Mega64 account admitted that this year’s Christmas stream had gone “too far” and confirming that the group is “looking into this.” It’s unclear if the group is talking to Twitch to try to get the ban reversed. Mega64 has been streaming on Instagram so fans do have some way to watch the group as they try to look for a fix to the Twitch ban.

However, some Mega64 fans aren’t taking the ban as well. The Mega64 ChristmasCast happens annually and there is often vomiting and fans want to know why Twitch chose now to ban the group and not all of those other times. On Reddit, one fan joked that the group had “lost the coin flip” on whether Twitch felt like enforcing its terms of service. Others have asked why Alinity wasn’t banned for alleged animal abuse while Mega64 has been banned for this. Many Twitch viewers have said this before, asking the site to offer more information about why it bans people and how it chooses how long to ban them for.

There are also fans trying to launch a hashtag that will force Twitch to unban Mega64, while others are asking the group to move to another streaming site. The Mega64 YouTube channel has 521k subscribers and is one potential location if the group does decide to leave Twitch, or it could follow Ninja and other Twitch streamers who have moved to Mixer.
