Publisher Deep Silver has announced that Metro Redux, a double pack of Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, will be heading to Switch on February 28, 2020. Available both physically and digitally, Redux includes the re-released versions of both titles with all DLC included. Gamers that opt for the physical edition will also be treated to a host of bonus goodies to complete their Metro collections.

Called the “Ranger Cache pre-order pack,” buyers will receive a pin set, an exclusive sleeve cover for their game box, a double-sided artwork inlay, four double-sided art cards, and a double-sided poster. That’s a lot of double-sided stuff, but it accounts for the two games coming in this package.

As for how the game will run, we only have a short trailer to go off of. Metro 2033 was notorious for bringing not only Xbox 360 to its knees, but PC as well. That its sequel Last Light even made it to consoles is astounding, but the Redux ports to PS4 and Xbox One improved things dramatically. It’s hard to tell if this Switch port will be direct conversions of those or ports of the last-generation versions. We’ll just have to wait and see.

News of Metro Redux heading to Switch was sort of spoiled by a recent European ratings listing. Many weren’t expecting such a graphically demanding game to even come to the platform, but Nintendo’s hybrid console has proved very versatile. Titles like Doom (2016) and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus somehow run decently on the platform, so why shouldn’t Metro?

As for whether or not you’ll want to play them on the go, that depends on your personal preferences. The series is known for being rather intense and having all of that action scrunched on a small screen might make it difficult to play. We also don’t know anything about its performance, which shouldn’t just be assumed as good. Even something like The Talos Principle runs with a ton of framerate hiccups and that game doesn’t have much going on.

Still, if you’ve yet to play this series and are looking for an excuse to jump in, maybe the Switch version will be your calling.
