Nintendo’s latest earning results have revealed that Metroid Dread has become the series’ best selling game to date.
As spotted by Eurogamer, the figure was one of many success stories from the Japanese company’s FY 2021 ending March 31, 2022. The game’s total sales have now reached 2.9 million units, overtaking a previous series high of 2.84 million for Metroid Prime. That record had stood for nearly twenty years, given that game launched on the GameCube all the way back in 2002.
There were similar successes to shout about elsewhere in the results too. Nintendo noted that the last financial year had seen the highest level of software sell-through for a single hardware family. This included 11.4 million sales of Pokémon Legends Arceus in just ten weeks. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which only released a month ago, managed 2.1 million in just 2 weeks after launch.
Looking to the future, the company also confirmed some of its upcoming release dates for first party titles. They include Mario Strikers Battle League on June 10, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on July 29 and Splatoon 3 on September 9. The company also has high hopes for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in Late 2022. The company also still currently promises Bayonetta 3 will see the light of day later this year.
We count ourselves as big fans of Metroid Dread over here at Videogamer too. If you didn’t read our review yet, you can check that out over here. The game’s still being updated recently too, adding a new Boss Rush mode and more just last month.
