The process of changing the genes of your monstie is known as the Rite of Channeling. You can unlock this ability as you progress through the game and reach a stage where you shift to Rutoh Village. Complete the story quests it has to offer. What this rite basically does is that transfers the genes from one monstie to another. This will sacrifice the monstie that the gene has been taken from in the process. The monstie who will receive the genes will have it permanently. These genes have active and passive skills. You can access these and modified through the stables where you can manage your monsties.
The genes work in a tic-tac-toe manner where certain combos and lines will gibe you bonus buffs and skills. It is a 3×3 grid where if you have power and element linear lines, you will get bonuses for that specific ability. For example, if you line up three ice elements in vertical, diagonal, or horizontal lines, you will get an ice bonus. You can also level up these genes. All you have to do is put the same gene on top of each other to level them up.
