It appears Kinect owners that have been clamoring for more hardcore titles are finally getting their wish, at least if a job posting for the newly created Microsoft Vancouver is to be believed. According to the posting, a member of the Vancouver team recently saw his work focus shift from micro-transaction based titles to a triple-A shooter that will utilize Kinect in some capacity.

While the individual in question doesn’t go any further into detail, the existence of more hardcore fare for Kinect has been rumored for some time now. Since the technology’s inception there has existed an inequality between offerings that cater to casual gamer and those for the hardcore.

Kinect has already proved itself to be a success in the casual market with titles like Kinectimals and Dance Central, but the appeal of the peripheral has only stretched so far. Gamers of the hardcore variety have long since said that the only way in which they will adopt the tech is if it offers the types of experiences and innovation seen by some of the more inventive Kinect hacks.

Microsoft Vancouver is relatively new to the development game and therefore will have a lot to prove to the gaming public, especially if they are indeed developing a Kinect title. While many would point towards a franchise like Halo or Gears of War as the property to bridge the gap between Kinect and a hardcore audience, perhaps a new IP, if expertly crafted, could do just as well.

Art Director/Senior Artist (Characters)

Original team member in a new studio with a start-up mentality, hired a team of artists to create social microtransaction games. Over the course of the year, our studio strategy has changed and now focuses on developing a core AAA shooter experience using Kinect. Member of the MGS Creative Councel to promote job training to artists across all Microsoft Game Studios.

As of late, Microsoft has been relatively quiet in regards to new titles for Kinect — or at least ones that got the same type of marketing blitz that Kinectimals or Kinect Sports received. Touted as the future of the console — the next-gen version of the Xbox 360 if you will — we expect 2011 to be the year that Kinect proves its worth to the gaming public at large, perhaps via this Microsoft Vancouver-developed title. Keep on the lookout for more information about this triple-A shooter for Kinect, most likely some time around E3.

Do you think that the gaming public would be more receptive to shooter that is a new IP for Kinect or would they much rather experience an old favorite using the motion-controlled mechanics?
