Tripwire Interactive has launched a new update for its hit zombie shooter Killing Floor 2. The Perilous Plunder update is summer-themed and follows the same basic formula as previous expansions for providing new content. That includes a new map, unique weapons, more player outfits, and a few new enemies to slay. Desolation is the newest map to arrive in Killing Floor 2. It’s actually a community-made creation that Tripwire was so impressed with that it made it official....

The Kingdom Under Fire series had some real momentum in the 2000s. It had three strong games, followed by a simplified entry that fell flat. Korean holding company KRAFTON announced today that active development has started on an “unnamed game project” that will be based on the popular Korean fantasy novel series The Bird That Drinks Tears. It is unknown what shape or form this game project will take at this exact moment, but there’s plenty of promises of a “whole new experience.” For those maybe unaware of the subject of this adaptation, it’s certainly a massive deal in terms of Korean literature....

Researchers have taught lab-grown brain cells how to play Pong. Scientists at Australian company Cortical Labs, which which conducts research into the use of biology in AI, reported their findings yesterday in Neuron, a peer-reviewed neuroscience journal. Their paper, titled “In vitro neurons learn and exhibit sentience when embodied in a simulated game-world”, claimed the cultivated brain showed “apparent learning within five minutes of real-time gameplay”. The brain was grown using a mixture of human stem cells and mice embryos, and the system of 800,000 cells was named DishBrain by the researchers....

2K Games and Firaxis Games revealed another video about the turn-based tactical game Marvel’s Midnight Suns, dedicated to one of its playable superheroes. This time around we get the introduction of Doctor Strange, A.K.A. neurosurgeon-turned-magician extraordinaire Steven Strange. Marvel’s Midnight Suns, the upcoming XCOM-like real-time strategy game starring famous (and infamous) Marvel characters will have a Season Pass to alongside its upcoming launch. Today, publisher 2K confirmed a handful of characters who’ll join Midnight Suns as DLC, such as the foul-mouthed Deadpool and the very recently memed-to-undeath Morbius. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is getting four DLC packs, which means four additional character: Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm. Any Marvel fan will obviously be clamoring to get three of those....

Konami has announced a bunch of new content for Metal Gear Survive in the lead up to Halloween, among which includes a new outfit based on Silent Hill’s iconic baddie, Pyramid Head. The new content will form part of The Research’s Story event, which runs October 23 – November 6. To participate, you’ll need to have cleared Metal Gear Survive’s main campaign, after which you’ll be able to get stuck in and earn points to get your hands on a range of cool new items....

Metroid Prime Trilogy is out now for Wii U and available at an introductory price of only £8.99 from today until February 5. After the week is over the game will be priced £17.99.
