Jeff Minter S Latest Is A Reimagining Of Unreleased 80S Arcade Game Akka Arrh

Legendary game designer Jeff Minter and his Llamasoft outfit is back with another blast of psychedelic shooter action, this time in the form of Akka Arrh - a “reimagining” of an ’80s arcade cabinet game that never actually released. This, of course, is a somewhat different scenario to Minter’s Polybius, which was inspired by an ’80s arcade cabinet game that never actually existed. Akka Arrh, though, is very much a thing, having been designed by Atari’s Mike Hally and Dave Ralston as a prototype back in 1982....

Jimmy Page brought a special magic to Led Zeppelin. Or so it’s been charged. Page studied the works of Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn founder Aleister Crowley as well as sacred geometry and the Sacred Book of Abramelin. But the biggest magic wand the former session man wielded was the mystical Telecaster guitar, vintage: 1959. In the tradition of blues legend Robert Johnson, this 1959 Fender Telecaster was given to him by Jeff Beck, who passed it on as he passed on his gig with The Yardbirds....

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom And The Fight For Dinosaur Rights

Three years later, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom finds Claire — once again played by Bryce Dallas Howard — working as a full-time activist in charge of the Dinosaur Protection Group, an organization devoted to getting the surviving animals off Isla Nublar and somehow preserving them....

Letter From The Editor When Nostalgia Ain T What It Used To Be

One of the many peculiar sensations of advancing in age is the constant reframing of what’s considered old. Alongside the ever-growing creak of the bones and the gentle shock in the barbers when the hair that’s falling on your shoulders becomes increasingly white there’s the dry horror of people celebrating the ‘retro’ pleasures of a game you could swear only came out months ago. It’s a feeling that’s been bubbling up again with this week’s release of Nintendo Switch Sports, a follow-up of sorts to a game that defined its era, and in many ways went on to inform every subsequent era since....

Maniac Episode 2 Review Windmills

This Maniac review contains spoilers. Maniac Episode 2 For as intriguing as Maniac’s “premiere” episode was (can you call any one episode a premiere when they all debut at the same time?), its biggest drawback as an episode of television is that it wasn’t really an episode of television. “The Chosen One!” with its abridged ending and expansive world building instead felt like merely the first part of a larger entity....
