Sega and Ryu Ga Gotaku Studio are making sure Yakuza fans eat well, with a third game announced today in the series, this time a spin-off entitled Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. The man in question is Yakuza 1-6 protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, and the game will tell the story of what happened to him following the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Mable & The Wood is the latest entry to join in on the genre of Metroidvania, but brings with it an entirely different dynamic that impacts both its combat system and its story overall: killing enemies is entirely optional. That’s a good thing too, considering the player-controlled protagonist can barely lift her sword, and instead, uses her shapeshifting and telepathic abilities to save a dying world. Although the concept is interesting and the game’s simplistic pixel art design is well-executed, much like player’s sword, Mable & The Wood fails to really pick up at any point....

San Antonio Bound! Last week, thousands of gamers, cosplayers, and general nerds descended upon downtown San Antonio, Texas for PAX South. I was one of those nerds. Most of my time at PAX South was spent standing in lines or walking around, but sometimes I actually got to play video games! Among those games were plenty of gems, such as Ace Combat 7 and the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake. While these games were great, my actual favorite game from PAX South operates on a much smaller scale....

Spoilers from the start for Bird Box, both the book and the film, and Malorie, the book. Josh Malerman’s Bird Box was published in 2014 to much acclaim and the 2018 Netflix movie based on it caused quite a stir. In it, Sandra Bullock’s Malorie must try to shepherd two children to safety in a world populated by creatures it is fatal to look at. The movie was a great success for Netflix, and now a sequel has been published, titled Malorie which followers her character and the two children 12 years after the end of Bird Box....

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was a genuine delight when it launched some five years ago. This Switch-exclusive title combined X-COM style tactical gameplay with beautiful graphics and animation. It was made by Ubisoft, but had all of the polish you’d expect from a Nintendo first-party title - and arrived just a few months after the Switch debuted. Now, finally, the sequel is here, promising a substantially expanded scope alongside a reworked, more flexible combat system....

Earlier today during the Disney & Marvel games showcase, a collaboration between Marvel and Niantic was announced with the title World of Heroes. As one would expect with a Niantic game, this title is going to be exclusive to Android and iOS devices. The trailer itself didn’t reveal too much about the gameplay, but it featured multiple people in a park using the abilities of popular Marvel heroes like Thor, Cyclops, and Doctor Strange....

Over the past few weeks, the official Marvel’s Avengers Twitter account has introduced and detailed each of the individual Avengers. Content has included Iron Man’s Unibeam attack, the Hulk’s Joe Fixit costume, and new Captain America footage. The latest offering is a look into Black Widow’s past, as well as an interview with the superspy’s voice and mo-cap actor Laura Bailey. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order was released on July 19th, riding on the same hype train that has been chugging along with the incredible ending of Avengers Endgame and the fantastic follow-up Spiderman: Far From Home. Much t players’ excitement, the game’s story had them pitted them against Thanos and his army, The Black Order. This time, instead of a small team of ragged Avengers, they had access to nearly the entire Marvel universe to take on the Mad Titan....

The Xbox One S 2TB Launch Edition console has non other than Master Chief hidden within its slim white shell, Microsoft has revealed. Posting on Twitter, Mike Ybarra, the Director of Program Management for Xbox showed off a picture of the hidden Chief. The Metal Gear Solid series has been home to two very well known and respected fictional characters in Solid Snake and Big Boss, who carried the series for decades, although they met their chronological ends in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Microsoft recently announced Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service giving Xbox One owners access to hundreds of games, for $9.99 in North America. Many questioned whether this service, launching in late Spring, would affect Games With Gold, but a Microsoft representative has now confirmed that it won’t. Speaking with Kotaku, the rep said ‘Games with Gold and Xbox Game Pass are two different service offerings with unique benefits. Games with Gold is an added benefit specific to Xbox Live Gold members that rewards players with two to four free games each month to enjoy....

In the year since Microsoft Flight Simulator has been released, one of its biggest issues plaguing it has been performance. Players far and wide have shared their experiences, good and bad. Some players have claimed to have few to no issues, yet others have complained of low framerates and frequent stutters, despite having hardware that matches (and in some cases, even exceeds) the recommended system requirements. Microsoft has finally caved into years of pressure and has resurrected Clippy from the grave… sort of. With the arrival of Halo Infinite’s Season 2, Clippy makes a return in the form of a legendary-tier weapon charm, although it’s currently unclear how players can unlock it, as it’s not available on the Battle Pass or earned in-game. Xbox hardware senior project manager James Shields showed off Clippy and the associated nameplate the “Clipster” in a tweet....

The year 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of the Alien franchise. To commemorate the occasion, FoxNext Games is releasing a (kind of) followup to the successful Alien: Isolation. However, instead of home consoles, the new game will be for mobile and is titled “Alien: Blackout.” An interesting question is that, if this game were to come to consoles, where would it go? In an interview with DualShockers, FoxNext Games Vice President, TQ Jefferson, said the Nintendo Switch would be the platform for Blackout....
