For the past 20 odd years, I have had the pleasure of playing some great multiplayer games that have been enthralling. Doom and Doom 2 dominated much of my multiplayer gaming time prior to Quake appearing shortly after. They were fast and exciting in a time when gamers were only just starting to get a feel for competitive gaming. There have been strategy games such as StarCraft or Red Alert, which I still go back to from time to time, that still prove challenging....

Today marks the release of Deep Rock Galactic for PlayStation consoles, and for free if you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber. But seeing as the game has been out since early 2018 for Xbox consoles, it’s nice to see where the game’s at with a new port to flashy hardware. No one likes a cheat, including anti-virus provider Kaspersky. The company now offers a cloud-based solution called Kaspersky Anti-Cheat to stop cheaters in their tracks during esports tournaments and in online games. Kaspersky claims the new tool won’t cause unwanted traffic bottlenecks or reduce performance. One in three gamers are cheaters? An infographic released by Irdeto in 2018, “Cheating? Game over,” claims that “roughly” one in three gamers cheat. The firm surveyed 9,436 consumers located in six different countries....

Hideo Kojima has posted a tribute to Ryan Karazija, the lead singer and founder of Low Roar whose work many of us know from Kojima’s atmospheric Death Stranding soundtrack. Karazija died over the weekend at just 40 years old “after a short illness” due to complications from pneumonia. “I heard the news. I can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it,” Kojima tweeted. “Without Ryan, without you and your music, Death Stranding would not have been born....

Konami has announced that it’s bringing some Liverpool F.C. legends to the PES 2018 Legends mode. Players will soon be able to step into the digital boots of, Steven Gerrard, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen, though it’s currently unconfirmed whether Michael Owen will only be available 35% of the time because of his troublesome hamstring. It’s also been revealed that at least three more players will be joining the game at a later point, with the likes of John Barnes, Steve McManaman and Kevin Keegan entering the fray....

The latest Minecraft snapshot (which is what Minecraft updates are called, apparently) went up today. It includes multiple bug fixes, plus it adds changes to some Caves & Cliffs features. The developer even added some “extra context for the narrator.” I’m not sure what that means, but I’m assuming it gives them more lines or something. Does Minecraft have a narrator? Valheim, despite being a massive success with over 5 million copies sold, is still in early access for a reason. Developer Iron Gate still has a lot of work to do on the game as it needs some serious optimization and gameplay changes. Luckily, the game’s next patch takes a crack at both of those issues. Patch 0.146.8 for Valheim isn’t an enormous one, but it features some major changes, including the addition of Vulkan support and tweaks to multiple bosses....

A gaming store from Slovakia may have leaked the potential release date for The Last of Us Part II. The PlayStation exclusive has been the cause of impatience among fans for years, but there’s now hope that the game could become available some months down the line. Sony Entertainment has been scoring major points with its exclusives as of late and, with award-winning studio Naughty Dog taking charge of this project, it’s no wonder The Last of Us Part II is one of the most highly anticipated games in the works....

English soccer giants Manchester United are suing the Football Manager developers for trademark infringement. Specifically, they cite an allegedly illegal and inappropriate use of the team’s crest, logo, and branding. Man United has taken issue with Football Manager‘s inaccurate portrayal of the Manchester United brand, using a generic red and white logo instead of the iconic red devil crest. Both SEGA and Sports Interactive have fired back by claiming the use of Man United’s club name is a “legitimate reference” in a “footballing context....

It’s hard to believe that Mario Kart 8 is coming up to eight years old. Yet it’s also hard to imagine a time before it; like only a small handful of titles before it, Mario Kart 8 is a constant that’s become woven into my life, one of those rare forever games that’s always by my side. Metal Gear Online, the dedicated, squad-based multiplayer game for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, is now available on PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Konami has announced. The PC version remains on track to launch in January. Today third-party developers had a few reveals to share about upcoming aircraft and airport add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator. First of all, we get to see new screenshots and a development update for Just Flight’s Piper PA-38 Tomahawk. Achievements and Xbox Live are reportedly winging their way to non-Microsoft platforms, including Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Microsoft is set to debut its cross-format development initiative at GDC (via XBL) in March, which will see games on a range of platforms including Android, iOS, and Ninty’s hybrid console supporting its flagship online service and various social-integrated features. The GDC post reads: ‘Xbox Live players are highly engaged and active on Xbox and PC, but now they can take their gaming achievement history, their friends list, their clubs, and more with them to almost every screen....

More than 100 backwards compatible Xbox games are currently on sale, including dozens of old gems, such as the BioShock and Gears of War series, plus GTA4, Red Dead Redemption and Bully.
