For fans of retro beat ’em ups, there’s no shortage of modern titles for fighting fiends. The release of Streets of Rage 4, River City Girls, and others have marked a resurgence – albeit small – of retro-inspired brawlers. Mayhem Brawler brings a comic art style to the genre along with promises of “kick-ass soundtracks” to accompany your hooks and jabs. DC superhero brawler Injustice 2 has announced that it’ll see a free trial made available this weekend for players to give the game a go between December 14 and December 18 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It’s the summer of 1982, and director John Carpenter is on the cusp of releasing his latest movie, The Thing. For the 34-year-old filmmaker, the release marks the end of a major undertaking: the culmination of months of shooting on freezing cold sets and snowy British Columbia locations, not to mention the execution of complex and time-consuming practical effects scenes. Carpenter was understandably proud of the results: after such independent hits as Assault On Precinct 13, Halloween, and Escape From New York, this was his first studio movie (for Universal) and also his most expensive to date, with a budget of around $15m....

Annapurna Interactive has announced the release date for the PC version of former PlayStation exclusive Journey, and it’s coming as soon as next week, on June 6. Journey sees you play as a mysterious cloaked figure trying to make your way through a desert to a great mountain. The latest Cyberpunk 2077 patch is here and brings with it plenty of bug fixes, as well as umbrellas. Patch 1.61 brings plenty of additions both big and small that should help to make Cyberpunk 2077 even smoother. But the fact that the game is still receiving such large updates to fix problems nearly two years after launch isn’t brilliant. And there’s likely still plenty of work to do from this point on....

Sega has released another round of fixes for Sonic Origins - the publisher’s disappointing collection of classic Sonic platformers - this time taking aim at Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s troublesome Tails AI. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is giving away Lego Ninjago Movie the Video Game on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 (via Destructoid). This is a limited-time offer, so it will expire on May 21. Lego Ninjago is the adaptation of The Lego Ninjago Movie, which is a continuation of the TV series Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. Developer Playdead’s critically lauded Inside and Limbo titles are getting bundled into one package that will be available on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and coming to retail this September. On top of the side-scrolling, atmospheric puzzle-platformers, you’ll get an art card and poster in this double pack, but only for a ‘limited run,’ apparently. Those in the US will be able to pick this up at various shops from September 12 for $29....

Director Gerard Johnston’s upcoming horror movie M3GAN was originally slated for an R-rating, but in pursuit of opening the film up to a wider audience, namely teens, the team decided to revisit the ample gore and explicit violence to find more creative ways to portray the story of the bloodthirsty titular robot, according to GamesRadar.com. Johnston, a long-time horror enthusiast, makes his sophomoric directorial entry with M3GAN after his 2014 horror-comedy, Housebound....
