Game developer layoffs seem to be the “in” thing this year with Activision and Sony both leading the race by shutting down several studios, most notably on Activision’s side where the studios working on the Guitar Hero Games saw massive layoffs and Geometry Wars developer Bizarre Creations was officially shut down. Even THQ announced that they were going to be joining in on the fun by laying off 30 employees from Volition and Kaos Studios....

The bad guys are taking control in Lego DC Super-Villains, and they’re hatching a dastardly plan to save the world. Although the game opens with a battle with the Justice League, the heroes are soon replaced by a group of interdimensional criminals called the Justice Syndicate. Despite the flurry of Like a Dragon (or Yakuza) games that have been recently announced, none of them will be released on Switch. Indeed, a Switch port of anything Yakuza is unlikely to happen, according to Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama. Yokoyama made the statement in an interview with GameSpot yesterday and explained why the studio was reluctant to put Yakuza on Switch. Yokoyama cited the “family-friendly image of the Switch” as the reason why the studio wishes to keep Yakuza off the console....

The Deskaluda Guardian Raid is the first Guardian Raid featured in level 6 of Lost Ark, and it will test players with the power of dark and fire. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft will start requiring that major game publishers disclose their loot box odds for future games released on their respective platforms. Loot boxes, those virtual gambling machines that EA likes to call “surprise mechanics,” are a touchy subject in the games industry. More and more officials are likening loot boxes to slot machines and roulette wheels, where the odds are most definitely not in your favor. It’s gotten bad enough that a US Senator is calling for a blanket ban on loot boxes....
