This weekend was the second beta test for the very anticipated and very controversial Marvel’s Avengers. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users were able to play the beta for free, no pre-order required. However, it was a closed beta for PC players that you needed a code to access. This didn’t stop PC players from uncovering a treasure trove of possible Marvel’s Avengers characters in the game’s files. 2K Games and Firaxis Games revealed a new trailer of the tactical game Marvel’s Midnight Suns. dedicated to one of its playable characters. The character showcased today is the first Avenger, Steve Rogers A.K.A. Captain America. Of course, his gameplay is focused on his shield, but this doesn’t make him a purely defensive character. He can generate Block and then use it to unleash massive damage. His “Taunt” ability allows him to protect his allies as any good tank should do....
Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 have joined the original game on Xbox One’s backwards compatibility list, EA and Microsoft have announced. Whilst the first game is available via Games on Demand, the second and third outings are disc only at present. If you want digital versions you’ll need an EA Access membership, where the whole trilogy is now included in the games vault. The release of the full Mass Effect trilogy on Xbox One backwards compatibility came on N7 Day, which also saw the release of a brand new Mass Effect Andromeda Cinematic Trailer....
Microsoft is buying Call of Duty and World of Warcraft maker Activision Blizzard in an astonishing, industry-shaking deal worth $68.7bn. The deal, which is expected to be approved in 2023, was confirmed by Microsoft in a blog post from Xbox boss Phil Spencer. The monumental acquisition - by far the largest ever seen in video games, and the largest in Microsoft’s history - means Microsoft will own blockbuster franchises such as Call of Duty, Spyro, Guitar Hero, Crash Bandicoot and Tony Hawk from Activision, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, Hearthstone and StarCraft from Blizzard, as well as Candy Crush from mobile arm King....

Microsoft has ditched its online checks for Xbox One discs when playing on an Xbox Series X. The online requirements for Xbox games have previously come under fire for being unclear and rendering downloaded and offline games unplayable during service outages. Microsoft has recently made a quiet change to the checks made when launching games on Xbox Series X. For anyone making good use of the Series X’s backwards compatibility, there are now no online DRM checks for Xbox One discs....
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare developer Infinity Ward’s Los Angeles HQ was yesterday evacuated due to a bomb threat, reports Kotaku. One employee told the site that police arrived at the studio requesting that people evacuate the building yesterday morning, which staff were able to do without any issues. Activision hasn’t commented on the news at the time of writing. The bomb threat comes following a number of similar incidents across the US, with NBC reporting there have been ‘at least two dozen threats’ recorded in Los Angeles alone....

Today Developer SimulaM released a new video of its upcoming Jesus simulator I am Jesus Christ. In the video, we get to see basically two miracles combined. The first is walking on water, while the second is calming the storm, albeit the boat carrying the disciples didn’t really seem in all that much danger. Bandai Namco released another character trailer of its upcoming fighting game JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R. The video focuses on Robert E. O. Speedwagon, one of the new characters introduced with the remaster. It follows the trailer featuring Jotaro Kujo, another focusing on Jonathan Joestar, one showcasing Dio Brando, one starring Johnny Joestar, one featuring Noriaki Kakyoin, one starring Mohammed Avdol, and one showcasing Ikuro Hashizawa. Jon Bernthal recently appeared in Ghost Recon Breakpoint to portray Lt. Colonel Cole D. Walker, the game’s primary antagonist, but many will remember him more for his role as Frank Castle in Marvel’s The Punisher on Netflix. Despite the Four’s importance and success on the page, the property had yet to land a definitive screen incarnation despite several attempts. The 2015 film was not necessarily meant to be that version: instead, it was conceived and positioned as a dark, almost horror-like approach to the material — not unprecedented but also not quite the tone most fans envisioned when they thought of the comic-book Four and their colorful, often cosmic and wildly fun adventures....
Frontier has revealed the first gameplay footage for its in development business simulation and strategy game, Jurassic World Evolution. The two minute video doesn’t give much about the game away but it does show us some of the game’s well rendered dinosaurs, a hovering helicopter, a snarling T-Rex juxtaposed against the setting sun, and lots of lovely scenery. It all looks so serene, barring the long-extinct creatures running about. The gameplay footage doesn’t show how the actual game will play when it’s released....
The first chapter in Sierra’s upcoming adventure King’s Quest will arrive on July 28, Activision has announced. Due for release on PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC, the new series is said to offer a reimagining of the original games delivered across five different chapters. A price for each chapter has yet to be confirmed. A Complete Collection containing all five chapters is also scheduled to launch, although whether it’ll be a physical or digital release isn’t entirely clear....
Konami has been revisiting some of its old series and revamping many classic titles for modern systems of late. It’s possible that one of Konami’s most infamous series might be due for a revival, as the company has trademarked the Silent Hill name in Canada. Silent Hill is a series of horror games set in the titular American town, where many people have been forced to face representations of their own worst fears....
